Hike + Heal Grand Staircase Escalante Packing List

What should I bring to the retreat?

We’re staying at a remote backcountry campsite for this retreat, with options to camp in your van/RV or in a tent. In May, we anticipate highs in the mid-60’s and lows in the mid-40’s at night.

Food + Beverages

  • All meals are included in your registration. Since everyone has different nutritional needs and preferences while hiking, hiking snacks are not included in this event, so you’ll want to bring your own Trail Snacks for Friday’s hike

    • We’re providing the following meals:

      • THURSDAY: Dinner

      • FRIDAY: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

      • SATURDAY: Breakfast + Lunch

  • NOTE: this event is hosted within Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and is curated to be a healing weekend of disconnection. As such, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, plant medicine and other substances are not permitted.

If Camping (versus van/RV):

  • Tent

  • Sleeping pad or air mattress (something to separate you from the ground/tent pad for insulation from the elements)

  • Sleeping bag

  • Pillow

  • NEED GEAR? We have limited rental equipment available for this event (tents + sleeping pads, BYO bedding/pillow)

  • LOOKING FOR COMFORT? Give vanlife a try for the weekend! Click here to save 10% on a van with Escape Campervans when you use our discount code: HIKINGMYFEELINGS

Other Items

  • A headlamp or flashlight

  • Hiking shoes/boots

  • Socks

  • A daypack with water storage (we recommend hiking with at least 2L of water for this event)

  • Clothes you feel comfortable hiking in (performance materials recommended, cotton is a nightmare on a long hike)

    • WEATHER: The weather can be cool in the mornings and at night with warm and sunny afternoons. Be comfortable. We are expecting mid-60’s in the day and high-30’s to low-40’s at night.

  • Sun protection - Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, gaiter, sun hoodie or other long-sleeved top

  • Personal Toiletries – there are no showers or running water on site, and we are using a groover system for toilets

  • Journal - we will provide a pocket-sized journal for reflecting on the trail, but if you have a favorite one, feel free to bring it!
