Hike + Heal Sequoia National Park Packing List

What should I bring to the retreat at Sequoia National Park?

We’re car camping for this retreat which means your car will be parked close to your campsite. Bring as many creature comforts from home as you need to feel comfortable, or make it minimalist if you’re getting practice for backcountry camping.

Food + Beverages

  • Meals are not included in this event, so you’ll want to bring your own:

    • Dinner on Friday

    • Breakfast, lunch/trail snacks, dinner on Saturday

    • Breakfast + Lunch on Sunday

  • Food Storage (cooler + ice)

  • Cooking system (camp stove, JetBoil, small grill, etc)

  • Non-alcoholic Beverages (drinking water is accessible at the campground)

  • Dry + Substance-Free Event: At Hiking My Feelings, we recognize the importance of plant medicine as a part of holistic wellness, however, this is a substance-free event as mandated by federal law. Plant medicine is not allowed on Federal Land, and if visitors are found using plant medicine they will be ticketed and fined by the National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers. This also carries a mandatory court appearance if ticketed. We ask that visitors not use plant medicine or any illegal substances while in the parks. To ensure a healing environment, this is an alcohol-free event as well.

Camping Equipment

  • Tent or Tarp for shelter (hammocks are not allowed)

  • Sleeping pad, inflatable mattress, or cot

  • Sleeping bag

  • Pillow

  • Folding table (optional)

  • Camp chairs

  • Trash bag

Other Items

  • A headlamp - preferably with a red light setting to protect your night vision on the hike back to our cars after the astronomy program

  • Hiking shoes/boots

  • Socks

  • A daypack with water storage (we recommend carrying at least 2L of water, potable water is available at camp)

  • Clothes you feel comfortable hiking in (performance materials recommended, cotton is a nightmare on a long hike)

    • We recommend bringing a pair of pants for the stewardship project as we will be coming into contact with vegetation

  • Sun protection - Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, sun hoodie - whatever works best for you!

  • Personal Toiletries – there are NO showers at camp, but there are coin-operated showers at Lodgepole Market (5 minutes from camp)

  • Journal - we will provide a pocket-sized journal for reflecting during the event, but if you have a favorite one, feel free to bring it!

  • Portable battery bank - there is no power in the campground so bring a car charger and/or a power brick to keep your devices charged
