Wellness Wednesday: Nurture Through Nature

Nurture Through Nature

Please join us on Wednesday, November 16th at 1:00pm for this month’s Wellness Wednesday, an event hosted by The Mind Collective – A Partnership between Alliant’s California School of Professional Psychology and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties). Our mission is to create heartfelt communications to help people navigate the world of mental health ideas, concepts, treatments, and realities.

Our vision is to promote compassion and understanding from education about mental health facts and lived experiences. By bridging the academic and professional viewpoint with the peer and lived experiences, a well-rounded and holistic healing opportunity emerges. This month, learn how nature has a huge impact on improving your mental health.

Speaker Bios:

Dr. Cheryl Fisher is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), licensed in Maryland, Arizona and Florida. She is a certified trauma specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience and has deployed locally and nationally with the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team and Maryland Responds Medical Corp. She is also certified in EcoPsychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her research interests include the intersectionality between human and more than human engagement.   She is an international speaker, columnist for Counseling Today Online, and author of Mindfulness and Nature-Based Therapeutic Techniques for Children. Her most recent writing project titled Coming Home: Finding Your Savannah examines the human- nature relationship and the narrative over time. Beginning with creation stories, Dr. Fisher discusses the evolution of change and disengagement from our natural stories, the physical, mental and spiritual implications of eco-detachment, the role of ancestral land/community and practices in wellness, and the importance of returning to our 'savannah'.

Sydney Williams is the author of Hiking My Feelings: Stepping Into the Healing Power of Nature and travels across the country empowering others to summit their personal mountains on their way to becoming Well Beings. Hiking My Feelings began on a mountaintop east of San Diego, CA in 2018 – a mantra, battle cry, and most importantly a replacement to the eating and drinking that had once been go-to methods for handling the reverberating emotions of lived trauma. Since that day, they’ve been on a mission to improve community health by creating opportunities for people to experience the healing power of nature. This is a lively group and safe space with an interactive Q&A and discussion. Everyone is welcome!

We hope to see you there.
